Peruvian avocado exports reached $953MM through September 2023

From January to September 2023, Peruvian avocado exports to 36 countries reached $953 million and showing a growth of 9 percent compared to the $874 million registered in the same months of 2022, reported Agraria, using figures from Peru’s Association of Exporters (ADEX).

In terms of volume, in the first 9 months of this year, shipments of this fruit from Peru amounted to 594,778 tons, registering an increase of 3.3 percent more than the same period last year.

ADEX agroexports manager, Claudia Solano, warned about the weather conditions that affected the result of August’s harvest, where it reached 45,041 tons, 6.9 percent less than the same month of 2022 (48,401 tons).

“According to information from the Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the most affected regions that month were La Libertad (decrease of 32.8 percent) and Lima (decrease of 18.5 percent). Despite this they accounted for 49.2 percent of the total. Those that reduced their crops the most were Apurímac (decrease of 80.2 percent), Moquegua (decrease of 47.8 percent), Ayacucho (decrease of 41.2 percent) and Arequipa (decrease of 37.7 percent),” she explained.

On the other hand, she highlighted the growth of production in Pasco (increase of 87.6 percent), Ica (increase of 84.4 percent), Huánuco (increase of 56.8 percent) and Lambayeque (increase of 40 percent).

According to the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, this product reached 36 markets, whose ranking was led by the Netherlands with $293 million, experiencing a concentration of 30.7 percent and an increase of 12.2 percent.

Second place was occupied by Spain with $185 million, presenting a participation of 19.4 percent and an increase of 42.1 percent. The top five was completed by the U.S. ($135 million), Chile ($97 million) and the UK ($97 million).

The leading companies were Avocado Packing Company S.A.C.; Westfalia Fruit Perú S.A.C.; Camposol S.A.; Virú S.A.; Sociedad Agrícola Drokasa S.A.; Agrícola Cerro Prieto S.A.; and Agrícola Pampa Baja S.A.C.
