Agronometrics Shorts: Avocado Prices Witness a 27% Jump in Week 25

By Agronometrics | 23 June 2023

Week 25 has seen avocado prices surging to $49.39 per package. Mexico’s avocado output reaches a seasonal low point in June and July. This decline in supply coincides with the peak production periods of California and Peru. Peruvian avocado shipments have experienced a period of stagnation for the past month. In Week 24, exports amounted to 23.6 thousand tons, recording a 6% decrease Year-on-Year. ProHass recently revised its initial forecast of 330 million pounds to 240 million pounds, reflecting a reduction of 27 percent. Smaller fruit sizes due to weather events in Peru have also impacted the volume. At the statewide level, the California Avocado Commission anticipates a decline of 7% in the overall yield of local growers when compared to the figures from the previous year. The combination of these factors has resulted in a notable escalation in prices.
