Watsonville, Calif.-based Well-Pict Berries grows its Southern California proprietary strawberry varieties on approximately 1,200 acres in Oxnard, Calif., said Jim Grabowski, director of marketing.

“The coastline provides moderate temperatures and a 12-month growing season, making the area an ideal location for producing our berries,” Grabowski said.

Volumes of both conventional and organic berries are expected to be similar to production in recent years, he said.

“If this season follows past years’ history, we expect peak production volume to begin towards the end of March, beginning of April,” he said.

Grabowski said he will be traveling to some tradeshows in coming months to meet with retail partners and network to build new relationships, including The Packer’s Global Organic Produce Expo in early February and The Packer’s West Coast Produce Expo in early June.
