With consumer demand for avocados at a very strong level during the summer months, the cultural crew for La Bonanza does all it can to create the perfect avocado for that time of year.

“It is not just where you plant the tree, but how you develop the perfect variety and pruning technique for this time of year,” said Gabriel Villasenor, owner of La Bonanza Avocados and La Bonanza Fresh. “The soil, the rocks, irrigation and location all play a role in growing the perfect summer fruit.”

He noted that the company’s newest ranches in the Michoacán area utilizes high density planting and trees that are 8 months to 4 years old. “The older trees are heavy with fruit and ready for harvesting beginning in the end of June,” he added.

Gustavo Rivas, CEO of La Bonanza, explained the company’s strategy. “We are looking for our trees to give us high yields and multiple blooms from our thousands of acres in the Michoacán area throughout the year,” he said. “Our new ranches have been focused on offering high quality fruit during the summer months, a time that customers continue to look for more volume from La Bonanza.”

The La Bonanza team will soon be in Monterey, CA, to display both its fresh and processed product to the attendees of the 2022 International Fresh Produce Association Foodservice Conference, July 28-29. New to that team is Brian Garibay, director of sales and business development.

He has more than 15 years of experience in the avocado business and is stationed at La Bonanza Avocados USA headquarters in Mission, TX. “This is an exciting company for me to join,” he said. “No middleman, just fresh Mexican avocados and our own guacamole and pulp products, directly from the source — a salesperson’s dream job.”

Garibay is working on foodservice business with Casey Evans Beltran and retail accounts with Maggie Hall and Aaron Acosta.

La Bonanza Avocado is a two generation, family-owned Mexican Hass avocado grower, harvester, packer, processor, exporter and importer, located in Michoacán, Mexico and Mission, TX. It packs its own avocados as well as fruit from other family farms. Its farms are planted at various elevations in Michoacán giving it a steady year-round supply of both fresh avocados and guacamole products.
