Overview of cherries from Chile in the U.S. market, complemented by charts from Agronometrics. Original published on May 16, 2023.

The Chilean cherry season has come to an end. This season, the export volume of Chilean cherries reached 415,315 tons, a sharp increase of 17% from the previous season. The biggest problem in the import of cherries is their short storage and preservation periods and their vulnerability to damage. Post-harvest preservation is critical to maintaining the quality and freshness of cherries, and effective measures need to be taken to ensure that cherries retain their flavor, texture and nutritional value, so that the fruit reaches consumers in the best condition.

Shandong Aoweite Biotechnology Co., Ltd. is a professional manufacturer and exporter of preservatives. Manager Li introduced the company’s preservation technology for cherries.

According to Li, the company has a variety of products aimed at keeping cherries fresh in different situations, including preservatives, 1-MCP pack, 1-MCP card and modified atmosphere packaging.

“The liquid preservative for cherries can be dipped, sprayed, or fumigated after harvesting. We provide customers with very mature fresh-keeping fumigation technology, which can sterilize or keep fresh cherries in cold storage or freezers. It can effectively delay the physiological activities of cherries and maintain fresh nutrition for a longer period of time, thereby extending the shelf life of cherries to more than 60 days. ” Li said.

“Our Logfresh technology can not only prolong the preservation of cherries but also avoid the impact of freezing treatments in long-distance sea transportation on their taste and nutritional value. 1-MCP products can be used after the cherries are harvested, boxed, or bagged. Put a pack or a card directly into the package, then seal it, and keep it airtight for at least 6 hours to effectively kill microbial pathogens on the surface of fruits and prolong the freshness of cherries. ”

Then, Li introduced the modified atmosphere packaging of cherries, “Because of the fully automated production line, only one worker is required to operate the entire line, which saves a lot of labor and costs. The price of our Logfresh modified atmosphere packaging bags is 50% lower than similar products in Chile and Israel, and the storage period is about 15 days longer than similar products. Li said, “Growers and distributors can also avoid the period when there are too many competitors and slow sales in the cherries season, and extend the supply period of cherries.”

Shandong Aoweite Biotechnology Co., Ltd. was established in 1996 and has been engaged in the research and development of fruit preservation products for nearly 30 years. The company is mainly engaged in the research, production and sales of fruit and vegetable storage and fresh-keeping technology, agents, ripening agents, fresh-keeping films, and agricultural information equipment. It has a wide variety of products and has 36 authorized patents. At present, the company’s 1-MCP products have obtained registration certificates in Turkey, New Zealand, Ukraine, Argentina, Colombia and other countries, and have cooperated with distributors in many regions. Now it is looking for more partners.
