The short season of California-grown Keitt mangos will wrap up soon. It runs for about six weeks in the months September and October. Keitts are a sweet and large mango variety with size 4 being most popular, but size 3 also being available. In the US, the mango variety is only grown in the desert of the Coachella Valley and the fruit is 100 percent organic.

“They have a perfect window as they enter the market when the Mexican season ends,” says Jose Fu with CCH Citrus. “In addition, Brazil’s mangos are not quite there yet in terms of flavor,” he added. Another benefit of California Keitts is that they don’t require hot water treatment, something that is said to have a negative impact on the fruit’s flavor. “As a result, our mangos retain their distinct taste. I grew up in the tropics eating mangos from my family’s home backyard. These mangos remind me of such a taste,” he shared. This unparalleled flavor profile, despite a premium price, consistently draws consumers back to stores.

Altogether, the benefits of a unique window of supply, distinct taste, as well as being organic and California grown provide these Keitt mangos with a competitive edge. CCH Citrus is the exclusive packer and shipper of the unique California-grown organic Keitt mangos. “As our growers gradually expand acreage, we enhance our capacity to cater to more supermarkets prioritizing organic produce,” Fu commented.
