Peru looks to export $1.4 billion worth of table grapes this year.

Robert Sanchez, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, told Agraria that Peruvian table grapes’ good performance in the first months this year would make it possible to reach a new export record of $1.4 billion.

This would continue Peru’s position as the world’s leading table grape exporter, which was achieved in 2021 thanks to shipments of $1.253 billion, a value 21 percent higher than the previous year.

During the fist quarter of 2022, Peruvian table grape exports reached $614 million, growing 22 percent compared to the same period last year. Shipments from the Ica, Piura, Lambayeque, and La Libertad regions to the U.S. (50 percent) and the EU (11 percent) stood out.

The trend of table grape exports has been growing due to global demand, with progress being made in consolidating this product by developing higher value varieties, Sanchez said.

“The subscription of the trade agreements signed by Peru has been allowing important results. Today we are proud of the grape, which is our main product in the national agro-export basket. We will continue to promote their shipments through capacity building, trade promotion, and access to new markets at a multisectoral level,” he said.
