Peruvian blueberry exports grow in volume, but fell in value in August

In August 2024, Peru exported 21,621 tons of blueberries for $154.4 million, showing an increase of 4 percent in volume, but a drop of 8 percent in value, compared to what was reported in the same month of the previous year.

The drop was due to the lower price obtained (-12 percent), which was on average $7.14 per kilogram, according to Agraria.

In the month analyzed this year, the U.S. was the main destination, with an increase in both volume (+20 percent) and exported value (+5 percent), reaching 11,525 tons for $84 million. In this market, the average price fell 13 percent, with the fruit being quoted at $7.26 per kilogram, but it still received 54.2 percent of the total exported by Peru.

China was the second largest destination, but it saw a decrease in both the imported volume (14 percent) and the value (21 percent), accompanied by a drop in the average price (8 percent). This country acquired 3,663 tons for $28 million at an average cost of $7.58 per kilogram.

Closing the top three, the Netherlands also presented a significant drop, with 4,032 tons acquired for $26 million, which represented a reduction of 10 percent in volume and a decrease of 31 percent in value. Likewise, the average price in this market decreased 23 percent, going from $8.40 in 2023 to $6.43 this year, and its share in total exports fell to 16.8 percent.
