Peru’s 2024-2025 fresh blueberry export projections revised down slightly

In the 2024-2025 campaign, Peruvian exports of fresh blueberries are projected to reach a total volume of 292,138 tons, which would mean a reduction of 0.6 percent in relation to the estimate made in June (293,841 tons), according to Agraria, using the latest projection of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Blueberries of Peru (Proarándanos) updated in September.

The blueberry season in Peru is considered from May 2024 to April 2025. The peak is expected for week 43, with a total of 17,278 tons.

Among the main destination markets for the Peruvian fruit are the U.S., Europe, the UK, and China.

In the case of the U.S., the report indicates that shipments would amount to 150,332 tons, which represents a growth of 19.6 percent compared to what was exported in the 2023-2024 campaign, but a fall of 2 percent compared to 2022-2023. The peak of exports to the U.S. market would occur in week 44, with 9,016 tons.

In Europe, not counting the UK, exports would total 68,484 tons, growing 36.8 percent compared to the 2023-2024 campaign and a decrease of 8 percent compared to the 2022-2023 period. The peak of exports is expected for week 45, with 4,017 tons.

In the UK, the report states that the estimated volume would be 17,542 tons, reflecting a 28 percent growth compared to the 2023-2024 campaign and 23 percent more than the 2022-2023 period. The peak would occur in week 47, with 964 tons.

In Asia, specifically in China, shipments are projected to amount to 43,152 tons, 64 percent more than last season and 17 percent more than 2022-2023. The peak of shipments would be in week 43, with 2,920 tons.

Regarding other destinations, shipments are estimated to total 12,628 tons, which translates into 38 percent more than the 2023-2024 campaign and 81 percent more than 2022-2023. The export peak is expected for week 43, with 732 tons.

The U.S. would concentrate 56 percent of total shipments, followed by Europe with 22 percent, the UK with 6 percent and China with 12 percent. Other destinations would have a share of 4 percent.

In the 2024-2025 campaign, Peru would export 255,092 tons of conventional blueberries (88 percent of the total) and 36,236 tons of organic blueberries (12 percent of the total), according to the Proarándanos report. These figures represent a reduction of 2 percent in the conventional volume and an increase of 7 percent in organic volume, compared to the previous projection.

The peak of conventional fruit exports is projected for week 43, with 15,094 tons. In the case of organic fruit, it would be the following week, with 1,936 tons.

The U.S. would reduce its share from 99 to 91 percent of total organic exports; Europe, excluding the UK, would account for 5 percent of the market; China would represent 2 percent; and the UK and other destinations, 1 percent each.
